Frequently asked questions
How does this overtime calculator work?
It splits the hours you enter at a weekly threshold (40 by default). Hours at or below the threshold are paid at your hourly rate. Hours above it are multiplied by the overtime rate you choose. The page shows regular pay, overtime pay, and a weekly total. Nothing is sent to a server.
What is time and a half?
Time and a half means overtime hours are paid at 1.5 times your regular hourly rate. On this page it is the default multiplier. You can switch to double time (2.0) or enter a custom multiplier of 1 or more.
How do I estimate overtime from a salary?
Choose Salary, then enter annual or weekly pay and the hours you normally work in a week (40 if you leave it blank). The tool converts that to an equivalent hourly rate and uses the same weekly overtime split. This is an estimate only. It does not decide whether a role is exempt or non-exempt.
What inputs does the calculator reject?
It rejects a rate of 0 or less, negative hours, and a multiplier below 1. Custom multipliers must be at least 1. If you enter more than 168 hours in a week, you get a warning and the estimate still runs.
