Net Pay Calculator

Estimates 2026 federal take-home pay from gross pay. It converts period gross to annual, then subtracts 2026 federal income tax (standard deduction and ordinary brackets), employee Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare, optional extra federal withholding, and an optional state/local percent of gross. This is a 2026 federal estimate, not a payroll, W-4, or tax-filing system, and not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a 2026 federal estimate or a live payroll system?

This is a 2026 federal estimate only. It is not a payroll system, not a W-4 tool, and not a tax-filing system. Results are estimates, not tax, payroll, or legal advice. Confirm figures with IRS publications, SSA, or a qualified professional.

How does this net pay calculator work?

Convert your pay-period gross to annual gross. FICA wages equal annual gross minus the pre-tax annual amount you type. Taxable income equals FICA wages minus the 2026 standard deduction for your filing status. Federal income tax uses the 2026 ordinary brackets. Social Security is 6.2% of FICA wages up to 184500. Medicare is 1.45% of all FICA wages. Additional Medicare is 0.9% of FICA wages above the IRC §3101(b)(2) threshold. Extra federal withholding is the annual dollar you type. State/local is the percent of gross you type. Annual net is annual gross minus those amounts. The selected pay period divides annual figures for display.

What 2026 standard deduction does this page use?

Tax year 2026 standard deduction from IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 §2.15 / IRS newsroom 2026 inflation adjustments: Single 16100, married filing separately 16100, married filing jointly and qualifying surviving spouse 32200, head of household 24150. This estimate does not itemize and does not apply credits.

What is the 2026 Social Security wage base on this page?

The Social Security employee rate is 6.2% of FICA wages up to 184500 for 2026 (SSA contribution and benefit base). Wages above 184500 are not charged Social Security in this estimate. Medicare has no wage cap.

When does Additional Medicare tax apply?

Additional Medicare is 0.9% of FICA wages above 200000 for Single and head of household, 250000 for married filing jointly and qualifying surviving spouse, and 125000 for married filing separately. Those thresholds come from IRC §3101(b)(2) and are not inflation-adjusted.

Does pre-tax reduce FICA wages on this estimate?

Yes, in this estimate only: FICA wages equal annual gross minus the pre-tax annual dollar you type (401k/etc). There are no contribution limits in the form. Real 401(k) contributions often still have Social Security and Medicare withheld. That pretax-reduces-FICA step is a simplification, not payroll software.

Does this calculator include state income tax tables?

No. There are no state or local jurisdiction tables. Optional state/local is a percent of gross that you type. It is not a W-4, not a state withholding table, and not tax software.

Is this a W-4 or tax-filing system?

No. This page does not complete Form W-4, does not file a return, and does not decide withholding elections. Extra federal withholding is an annual dollar you type. There are no credits, AMT, NIIT, or itemized deductions.

When are the tax tables refreshed?

The static 2026 tables refresh when IRS Rev. Proc. inflation adjustments and the SSA contribution and benefit base are published for a new tax year. This page does not call a live IRS or SSA API.

Do I need an account? Do you store the numbers I enter?

No. The math runs in your browser. There is no signup, and Tallymill does not save your pay or filing status. Refreshing the page clears the form.
